The 5k Challenge II

No Vinnie this time: Only cold winds and tennis shoes, plus grape-scented porta potties! What is it? THe Turkey Trot, of course! That day I started my final sprint a little too early and do not wish to discuss it further. Thank you.

That Beach House Was...Interesting

If you are ever to vacation on Holden Beach and are thinking of renting a beach house, please DO NOT rent out the one I did. I say this not for the ill being of it's owner, but for the well being of you. Allow me to explain: The shag carpet caught every little sand spur you might drag in on your shoe, adding to the high-intensity carpet staples, one of which I sliced my toe on. Secondly, the basement: The window unit heating system blew cold air only, and for about five seconds per. Another thing: Bathroom facilities. Quoting my Grandma, "If you drop your soap in those showers, well, then...It is dropped!" I mean, honestly: My sister could literally not get but her stomach wet because of the unadjustible shower head. Plus, the downstairs bathroom smelled like ocean (go figure). And the decor. Ouch, I mean!! On a nail and a piece of gauze not even centered, a sand dollar. Next to a duct-taped Seurat. OWCH. Oh, yeah, and don't even get me started  about the kitchen!!!!!

On Your Mark, Get Set, GO!!!

Running Club at PES has officially started!!! And I'm in it, along with basically everyone else I know. See, the PES Running Club is a, what, third through fifth grade thing? Maybe fourth through, but I don't know. As you would imagine, it's extremely popular. The whole thing is a training session that leads up to the Turkey Trot, this 5k thing they do every time around Thanksgiving. I was in it last year too. The teachers working there are none other than Mrs. Reed, my current teacher, Mr. Rogers, my teacher from last year, and Mrs. Eidson, whom you should have previously read about. They are the best teachers ever!!!!!

The Neighbors

Today I met our new neighbors, Alex and his sister whose name I don't remember. Their Dad had asked me if our power was out while I was riding my bike, which I said "I don't think" to, and then Alex came out. Soon after I met his sister, whose name I don't remember. We had a lot of fun with their soccer ball and our Dominoes (Not the pizza, but I wish).I currently have nothing else to say; Goodnight!

My New Teacher

Hello, people! It's me here again, giving you another update on my life. This time, it's all about my new, 5th grade teacher, Ms. Reed!
Yesterday (August 23, 2012) was meet your teacher day for my sister and I. Caroline was going into second grade, and I was going into fifth. My family split up to go find teachers and, after some difficulty, my Dad and I found my teacher, Ms. Reed. It was nice to see that her classroom was right across from Mr. Rogers, who was my teacher last year, and it was also nice to see that some of my best friends from last year were in my class this year, too. Despite our wondering, we still can't figure out why "earbuds" were on the school supply list. I guess we'll see...

Seaside Vacation

Two days ago, my family and I returned home from what is hopefully our, what, second annual road trip to the island called St. Simon's Island. Placed in the more ocean-y  areas of the wonderful Georgia, it is very close to the sea. Unfortunately, it is NOT close to my family, my grandparents, OR my aunt's family, who runs the Tara Nicole business (check the blog, ladies: you'll love it!). While we were there, we made several trips to the epic treat store, which I have resolved to beg the principal to allow us to go there, despite it's 6 1/2 hours away from NC. ANYWAYS!!! A sign outside the candy shop states: "Ice cream, candy, chocolate dipped EVERYTHING, smoothies, and MORE!" And you know what my friends? IT'S THE UNDERSTAEMENT OF THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There are too many things to tell you about it, so i'll save myself some blog memory space (but not save you all some $$$, oh booey-hooey) and make you have to go there yourself. Hope y'all have fun like I did!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PEACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Introducing: The Cousin Camp 2012 Olympics

My Nana is a retired teacher. This may be the prime reason that she came up with "Cousin Camp", which is an annual event where my sister and I and our cousins from both sides of the family gather together and have fun. Each year has a theme. This year, in honor of The Olympics, our theme was--You guessed it--The Olympics. We did various sports, including the 60-Yard Dash, the Javelin throw, the Team 4-By-4 relay, and the hammer throw(Which ended rather abruptly when I accidentally chucked it into an extremely tall Cedar tree.). We even visited one of my Nana's friend's house, and did aquatics in their pool. Unfortunately, we discovered that there was a wasp's nest inside the diving board when a person got stung, and the diving was canceled. ):> We DID do a few races, though, which my partner and I lost (unfortunately!!). We did an awesome Opening Ceremony that my cousin Tindol and I put together. It also was one of my cousin's birthdays, when we got to go see Madagascar 3. It was like, so completely over hilarious that I needed an extra face because I'd laughed my first one off. Okayyyyyyyy....Just kidding!

A Fourth Worth Considering

Having my best friends around for the Fourth of July, plus the fact that we ate a TV dinner, plus the fact that they'd brought over their guinea pigs, PLUS THE FACT that we had an awesome self-made fireworks display, MINUS the fact that my friend gave me some uncalled-for major Harry Potter spoilers, I've decided that I had a pretty cool July #4. A few days beforehand, my friends had gotten here after traveling across the country from Las Vegas, Nevada, alllllllllllllllllllllll the way over HERE, to North Carolina. Having this particular night being the Fourth, we ate a TV dinner of home-made pizza, while watching Despicable Me. (It MAY have been the night AFTER the Fourth, because I don't remember totally.) They had brought along their pet guinea pigs, Luna and Hershey, Luna whom was mostly white with a collar-shaped streak of grey, and Hershey whom was various shades of chocolatey brownish (Thus her name!). We all had a good time holding them and watching them run around in their cage and eat hay from their little hay thingie. Very late in the nighttime, probably around nine-thirty or ten, my dad fot out in the middle of the cul-de-sac and set off a fireworks display that by far outplayed one that took place in the neighboring roads. And then there were the pop-its we used; you squeeze them and throw them at the ground and they explode. As we discovered, don't squeeze them TOO hard or they'll pop on your hand instead!!! After a VERRRRRRRRRYYYYYY long talking-time (Which was definitely a lot longer than we should have done), we finally drifted off around one in the morning, with an overall perfect Fourth of July to look back on.

The 5k Challenge

As I woke up this morning, I hoped that I wasn't too early but that I still had some time to play the Wii. Unfortunately, I didn't have time. I had to get ready to run the 5k that my work in running club was leading up to. I got dressed and got in the Jeep and went to the 5k. On the way, I ran around with the adults and eventually caught up with a fifth-grader named Vinnie. He was a good racing companion to have around because he'd done the thing before and helped along the way. After that, we went to the church to help up in a car wash to raise money. We almost had $700.00! All in all, I do believe I'll sleep very well tonight!!!!

A Memorable Memorial Day Celebration

The Sunday before Memorial Day brought along lots of fun.
A party was hosted by moi and moi family, with 3 other families joining. One family was at the zoo, so they showed yup late, and just as they did, the other two families left. Almost unusual...
We decided to put on several "concerts". The family we had over was extremely dramatic, and we had trouble figuring out what to do when people started ditching one another and forming different bands.
Their decisions were annoying and had major effects on the band they'd just ditched.
The end finally drew near when the main role in a forming idea quit.
Yes, it was plenty memorable--But not in a way that it should be.
Oh, well!

Mistah Rogers, The Friends, And The Helpers

All along my fourth-grade year, I've made several irreplaceable BFFs and buddies. This includes the teachers and assistants of Grade Four who work hard and deserve more respect than pets (I couldn't think of anything else to compare them with). To express my gratitude, I have decided to dedicate this post to not only the PES Grade 4 teachers, but also all of the teachers around the world. Here is how..
Mistah Rogers
My epic and funniest homeroom teacher. No offense, mrs. Schimke (My Grade 2 teacher), but you were pretty funny anyways. Ah yes, and I respect your way of letting kids do it their way as long as rules meet ends.
The Friends
Mrs. Eidson-Good with technology. Controls class really well. Knows what she's doing. (BONUS! I saw her at the supermarket!!!)
Mrs. Devine-Most self-describing name. Nice and understanding. Good at starting conversations and has raised your class the bestest that's betterer than bestsest!

The Helpers
Mrs. Scruggs- A fair person in competitons. Has good problem-solving skills and neat handwriting. Good reader and confident in yourself and others.
Mrs. Dalton- Competitive and well-dressed. Wishing you good luck in the future for finding a job as a teacher (You are just learning right now correct?). Good teacher you shouldn't have much trouble finding a god well-paying job!

Tree Play

Wearing the most ridiculous costume ever-A tree-I said my lines for the XMas play at Church. It felt silly; wearing a tree on my back, and in the videoes my dad kept laughing. It didn't feel that bad, but I nearly took out some lights!!!!!!!!!! (I will tell ya that they were very low XMas lights.)

Aladdin

Please don't blame me for not writing more; I've been quite backed up...Here's why.
My school had a play. We were doing Aladdin, and (Even though I should've been a main character) I wound up wearing my Beggar Woman costume. I was a bit disappointed at first, but then I realized that my outfit was "like totally cool" because I was the only Beggar out there who wore an I had to chase Aladdin at one point, and my only other big spotlight was my super-short solo came. After that, it was all, "Oh, Mattie, you belted it out like them pros!" I'll admit that it was pretty awesome, but not like a bragger size or anything. Oh yeah, and next year, I call a main character!
